New Jersey is getting serious about building offshore wind farms, as this week Governor Chris Christie signed the Offshore Wind Economic Development bill, which would support the development of 1,100MW of electricity generated by offshore wind turbines. The report at www.northjersey.com says the offshore wind farms could eventually supply enough power to supply 250,000 to 300,000 homes. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), Washington, D.C., says each megawatt of electricity generated by wind can power 250 to 300 homes.
