EPI Shows Little Movement in December

Jan. 20, 2017
While Electrical Marketing’s monthly EPI for December showed very little movement over November, (+0.2%), at least two product categories bucked the overall trend.
While Electrical Marketing’s monthly EPI for December showed very little movement over November, (+0.2%), at least two product categories bucked the overall trend. Power Wire & Cable (+9.1%) and Telephone (+2.5%) were both in solid growth territory. The only other category showing monthly change of at least one percent was Metal Conduit at -1.2%. Surprisingly, the category was up 3.9% year-over-year.

Note: All EPI series represent Global Insight aggregates of Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) producer price indices (PPIs). The revised data partly reflect redefinitions of specific PPIs by the BLS, but mostly reflect the rebenchmarking of all EPI price series to a 1997 base year. The four following EPI series have been affected by BLS redefinitions: boxes, conduit (fittings), nonmetallic conduit, and generators. Sources: U.S. Bureau of  Labor  Statistics; Global Insight
