July Electrical Price Index Dips Again

Aug. 22, 2014
EM's Electrical Price Index continued on its now-familiar path of decline. The Building Wire & Cable (-2%) and Power Wire & Cable (-2%) product categories led the July EPI’s slide.
Electrical Marketing’s Electrical Price Index (EPI) continued on its now-familiar path of decline.  The Building Wire & Cable (-2%) and Power Wire & Cable (-2%) product categories led the July EPI’s slide. The Air Conditioners category (+1%) was the only  other category showing a change of greater than one percent. Year-over-year, Electrical Marketing’s EPI is up 0.2% through July.

Note: All EPI series represent Global Insight aggregates of Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) producer price indices (PPIs). The revised data partly reflect redefinitions of specific PPIs by the BLS, but mostly reflect the rebenchmarking of all EPI price series to a 1997 base year. The four following EPI series have been affected by BLS redefinitions: boxes, conduit (fittings), nonmetallic conduit, and generators. Sources: U.S. Bureau of  Labor  Statistics; Global Insight
