GE Consumer Products exec says GE's in lighting to stay

GE is committed to the lighting market, according to James P. Campbell, president and CEO of GE Consumer Products. During a press briefing at LightFair in New York on May 6, Campbell said it's “sheer speculation” that GE Lighting is up for sale. He said GE Lighting had doubled its spending on new product development and that GE is “going to win in this business.” An October 2002 article in Fortune magazine last year had said the company was trying to sell its lighting business. “GE is in this business, and we are going to stay in this business,” said Campbell. In August 2002, GE combined its GE Appliances and GE Lighting businesses into a single business to be called GE Consumer Products.
