GE Energy Services acquires metering company for UK market
GE Energy Services, Atlanta, has acquired Remote Energy Monitoring, Ltd. with operations in the United Kingdom and Australia. This acquisition enhances GE's ability to address the European Union's goals for a lower-emission, higher efficiency energy infrastructure. Remote Energy Monitoring's software and hardware technologies allow consumers and utilities to better monitor and manage their energy usage.
Schneider, Emerson land Iraq contracts in Basra
Schneider Electric SA also has new work in Iraq. The company signed a $29 million contract to build eight power distribution plants in the southern Iraqi oil hub of Basra. Iraq, holder of the world's fifth-largest oil reserves, is struggling to raise power output, which was about 8,000 megawatts in April, just more than half of its domestic demand of about 14,000 megawatts, according to government figures. Iraqis currently receive power from the national grid for an average of about one hour in every five, according to Bloomberg news reports.
Emerson Process Management, meanwhile, won a contract to provide crude-oil metering systems and related technology for the new Al-Basra oil terminal. Emerson's Daniel metering systems will measure the amount of oil as custody is transferred from producers to shippers through the Al-Basra terminal.
Turtle & Hughes again a top woman-owned business
Turtle & Hughes Inc., Linden, N.J., earned the number one spot on NJ Biz Lists 2010 Top Women-Owned Businesses in New Jersey. The list, which was released in December, ranked 151 New Jersey-based companies across all industries based on 2009 revenue. Turtle & Hughes has been among the top 50 women-owned businesses of any kind nationwide for more than a decade. Third-generation owner Suzanne Millard currently serves as Turtle & Hughes' chairperson. In 2010, she turned the day-to-day operations over to her daughter, CEO Jayne Millard, who joined Turtle & Hughes in 1991 as vice president of marketing and has served as its president since 2009.
EMCOR's Dynalectric wins bid for ARRA courthouse job in Portland
The Portland Oregon branch of EMCOR's Dynalectric Co. subsidiary has been awarded a contract for the replacement of the electrical systems at the Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building in Portland, Ore. Dynalectric will be responsible for replacing the entire electrical, fire alarm and tele/data systems in the 18-story, 500,000-square-foot Edith Green-Wendell Wyatt Federal Building. To be completed in 2013, the building is being built to LEED Platinum standards. Its construction is the largest American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project in Region 10 of the U.S. General Service Administration.
Quanta subsidiaries win $118.5 million fiber-optic contract
Quanta Services Inc., Houston, said its Sunesys and Blair Park Services subsidiaries have been awarded a contract valued at approximately $118.5 million to design and install a statewide fiber-optic network in Pennsylvania by a coalition of Pennsylvania colleges and universities, research and health care organizations and economic development entities called the Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research (KINBER).
Delaware minor-league baseball team relighting stadium
The Wilmington Blue Rocks minor-league baseball team in Wilmington, Del., is retrofitting 125 lighting fixtures at Frawley Stadium with 250 T5 retrofit kits, reducing the facility's annual lighting costs by 68 percent. The project will deliver a return on investment in less than 12 months. A branch of City Electric Supply in Delaware is providing the products for the project. The initial order will provide lighting upgrades to the entire first floor of the stadium; the second-floor concourse and third-floor suites and restaurant continue being retrofitted.“The T5 Retrofit Kit seemed like the perfect solution for the energy-saving project the organization was looking for. It not only provided this facility with instant energy savings, but also qualified for an incentive from Energize Delaware's Efficiency Plus Business Program,” said CES Sales Manager Al Subach.
