A few short months ago, it wasn't uncommon to learn about multi-million dollar contracts for electrical and VDV equipment being financed in part through the American Resource and Recovery Act (ARRA). During the past month at least, much of that works seems to have dried up, according to information at www.fedbizopps.gov, the U.S. government website that tracks federal project activity related to ARRA funding.

The only contract for more than one million dollars reported at www.fedbizopps.gov during the past 30 days was the $1,555,971 award for a standby electrical generator at the National Animal Disease Center in Ames, Iowa, won by MPS Engineers, West Des Moines, Iowa.

It's interesting to note that contracts for advanced metering systems for federal facilities are still out there. Several months ago, it wasn't uncommon to see multi-million dollar metering contracts funded by the ARRA. During the past month, the contracts for the installation of this equipment have been smaller, but still sizeable. Constellation Energy Projects & Services Group, Inc., Baltimore, won a $426,091 contract for metering equipment to be installed at federal buildings in western Pennsylvania; Alares LLC was the winning bidder at $466,430 for the installation of metering equipment in nine federal buildings throughout New England; and RFBS Enterprises, Staten Island, N.Y., won a contract for $85,000 to install metering systems at the United States Mission at the United Nations building.
