Fluke Networks, Everett, Wash., a division of Danaher Corp., agreed to purchase the telecom tools, test sets and test systems product lines from Harris Corp. for approximately $50 million in cash. Located in Camarillo, Calif., these business lines generated approximately $32 million of revenues in fiscal 2003 and will become part of Danaher’s electronic test platform.

These groups deliver handheld test and measurement solutions for telecom technicians including butt sets, specialty tools, toners and probes.

“The acquisition of these successful product lines is an excellent, complementary fit for Fluke Networks as we position ourselves for leadership in the telecom/outside plant test market,” said Chris Odell, Fluke Networks president. “We can now serve our telecom customers with everything from mission-critical Operation Support Systems (OSS) solutions, to tools that meet the everyday needs of the field technicians.”

Fluke Networks has bought several large companies in recent years. In 2002, Fluke expanded in metering equipment for the three-phase segment of the power quality market when it bought Reliable Power Meters, Los Gatos, Calif. In 2001, Fluke Networks bought Fotec Inc., Medford, Mass., a provider of fiber-optic test equipment and structured cabling education, and Microtest Inc., Phoenix, an independent test equipment manufacturer. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter.
