Moeller industrial control products will now be represented exclusively in the United States and Canada by CopperLogic Inc. (Ltd.). The company currently sells through a network of 600-plus distributors in the United States and Canada. In the North American market, Moeller (formerly known as Klockner Moeller) had developed a niche selling IEC-rated industrial controls and related components.

According to a company press statement, CopperLogic plans to expand its lineup immediately by introducing CopperLogic branded control products that complement the Moeller brand, and continue to manufacture and market motor control centers and custom control panels, as well as support Moeller’s large installed base of these products.

Moeller’s U.S. and Canadian sales organizations were sold to CopperLogic’s present management group five years ago, and were not part of Eaton Corp.’s 2008 acquisition of Moeller GmbH, said Ben Orr, CopperLogic’s director of marketing communications. Led by John Hamm, an industrial controls market veteran and former president of Sprecher + Schuh’s U.S. operations, the management team purchased the existing inventory on hand, a few fixed assets and the right to exclusively represent the Moeller brand in the United States and Canada.

“All international companies with foreign sales organizations set them up as stand-alone corporations in the country in which they’re selling,” said Orr in an e-mail to Electrical Marketing. “At any time, the parent company can sell the sales organization to a private company or individual with an understanding that the ‘new’ sales organization will continue to sell the parent’s products. We’ve just started introducing CopperLogic branded products that complement Moeller’s basket.

“This is a win-win-win for us, for our channel and for our customers. We’re also transitioning the ‘Moeller’ motor control center business into the CopperLogic brand. Customers have been receptive to the change so far because they understand we’re the same group of long-time Moeller employees. Not to mention, everything is built with Moeller components.”

Cleveland-based Eaton Corp. announced its intentions to buy Moeller GmbH in December 2007 and closed the deal the following year. Based in Bonn, Germany, Moeller had sales of approximately $1.6 billion operated 15 global production facilities and sales offices in more than 90 countries and had approximately 8,700 employees at the time of the acquisition.
