After 55 years in Perth Amboy, N.J., Samson Electrical Supply moved to South Plainfield, N.J., in August 2004. The third-generation family-owned electrical distributor had been serving New Jersey from the same location since 1949.

The move for this one-location distributor was only about 12 miles, but it was the impetus for Samson Electrical Supply to launch a marketing campaign that introduces and creates awareness for Samson among small and medium electrical contractors. Samson Electrical Supply’s customer base has traditionally been skewed toward industrial customers; its contractor customers were primarily large electrical contractors. Geographically, the move places the electrical distributor in a position to better serve New Jersey’s northern Middlesex and Somerset counties.

“We’re sort of reinventing ourselves because of our new location and the tremendous opportunities we have here in the contractor/commercial area,” said Don Colgan, Samson Electrical Supply’s marketing manager.
