Square D Co. has donated labor, supplies and money to eight separate initiatives in the Gulf Coast attempting to rebuild community locations and organizations that were damaged after Hurricane Katrina. Square D is the flagship brand of Schneider Electric, Palatine, Ill., for electrical distribution equipment.

The projects vary from parks and athletic facilities to museums and a medical clinic. Total monetary donations to the collective efforts are more than $1 million.

“Giving back to the community has always been a core value of Schneider Electric, especially in the face of devastating disasters such as Hurricane Katrina,” said Dave Petratis, president and chief executive officer of the Schneider Electric North American Operating Division. “In seeking out numerous independent initiatives throughout the Gulf Region, we could ensure our money was aiding multiple communities and a variety of important projects.”

The eight recent initiatives supported by the donations are:

  • New locomotive and a train coach car for the city park in New Orleans, as well as a new holiday light exhibit.
  • The restoration of two playground areas and a picnic pavilion at Beach Park in Pascagoula, Miss.
  • Repairs for the Stone High School baseball field in Stone County, Miss., to ensure the field is operational and safe as well as the restoration of field projects previously financed by parents’ fundraising efforts.
  • The restoration of the jellyfish exhibit at the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas along with the completion of the Audubon Insectarium.
  • A new scoreboard for Milner Football Stadium at Gulfport High School in Gulfport, Miss.
  • Matching the funds generated by the City of Gulfport Charity Golf tournament as well as the donation of merchandise for a fundraising raffle and hats and towels for tournament participants.
  • The electrical needs for the facility of the Trinity Christian Community Center in New Orleans that houses after-school programs and provides lodging for college students and short-term mission trips.
  • Electrical equipment to help the Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic in Bayou La Batre, Ala., service its clients.
