Thomas & Betts on Monday laid off about 5 percent of the employees at its corporate headquarters in Memphis, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal. About 25 people out of the 550 who work at the headquarters.

“We realigned a couple of departments,” Tricia Bergeron, vice president of investor and corporate relations, told the Commercial Appeal. “We changed some reporting structures. As a result of that, there are a few positions being eliminated.”

The company already has enacted cost cuts, no-growth budgets and a cap on merit-pay increases for salaried employees, and an earlier layoff of 12 percent of its work force in the last half of 2008.
