Engineers at GE have helped develop an affordable LED light bulb that can talk to its owners’ tablets and smartphones. according to a recent post at www.gereports.com. The bulb, which starts at just under $15, contains a chip that can wirelessly connect to the Internet and communicate with users via a mobile app called Wink.

The company will sell the system through Home Depot starting this fall. It will compete with competitive control systems like the Philips’ Hue system now marketed in Apple stores.
