Author Matt Doyle says in this article that contractors and developers now sometimes need to take out surety bonds to ensure that the building is built to all applicable environmental standards. He reports that the bonds may cost anywhere from a few thousand dollars for a specialty contractor to several hundred thousand dollars for general contractors working on large projects.
