Will Cheap Oil Hurt Renewables?

Interesting article in the Oct. 21 edition of The New York Times on how declining oil prices could hurt the growth and acceptance of wind, solar and other alternative energy sources. The article, "Alternative Energy Facing Headwinds," also said the comparatively low cost of natural gas — currently down to approximately $6.79 per thousand cubic feet — could hurt, too. The article said when natural gas hits $6 per thousand cubic feet it makes wind look like a questionable idea and solar power unfathomably expensive to utlities considering large-scale alternative energy plants.
