Electrical Price Index

Price increases from tariffs aren't apparent yet in the latest Electrical Price Index data.

Panelboards & Switches and Circuit Breakers, both down -1.1% for the month, and Switchgear, down -1.3% saw the biggest changes in January.

Switchgear logs the largest increases in September's Electrical Price Index (EPI).

While prices are moderating on a month-to-month basis, some pricing in some product categories is still coming strong year-over-year.

Electrical Marketing's EPI saw some big changes in July.

On a year-over-year basis, Power Wire & Cable (+15.5%) and Building Wire & Cable (+11.2%) registered the largest increases.

March's YOY increase of +0.3% was significantly less than the +2.58% historical average.

Circuit breakers led all product categories with a -2.1% decline that was +5.1% of the Feb. 2023 pace.

Pole-Line Hardware (-1.3%) and Boxes (-1.6%) had the largest monthly declines, while Circuit Breakers (+5.1%) were up the most.

Diesel fuel saw the largest monthly and annual declines, dropping -13.4% in Dec. 2023 from Nov. 2023, and -18.7% year-over-year.

The monthly decline in the EPI Total Index is quite unusual.

With the exception of Fuses (+1%), Switchgear (+1.2%) and Panelboards & Switches (+2.5%), it was a quiet month for Electrical Marketing's Electrical Price Index (EPI).

Much of the increase would appear to be due to the +9.1% monthly increase in the Power Wire & Cable category, which now sits at +39.8% above its Oct. 2022 mark.

The EPI has seen declines in five of the eight months since January, when it spiked +2.1%.

Power Wire & Cable and six other categories registered monthly increases of better than +1% for the month.
