Eaton Corp., Cleveland, will supply $8 million worth of electrical products and services for construction of a large new military medical center in San Antonio, Texas, as part of a consolidation of two military medical centers, according to the San Antonio Business Journal.
The products will be used as part of the construction of the new San Antonio Military Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. The new medical center is part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure action. The Department of Defense is consolidating operations at Wilford Hall Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base and Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston into one medical region with two integrated campuses.
Construction on the facility began in early 2009 and has a mid-2011 completion date. The project involves constructing a 700,000-square-foot medical trauma tower with 425 inpatient beds, 32 operating rooms, a Level 1 trauma center and emergency room and bone marrow and organ transplant facilities.
Eaton will supply low-voltage products such as panelboard and switchboards as well as services for start-up, testing and training.
