Crescent Electric Supply Co., one of the largest distributors in the country, has moved into the New York City metropolitan area for the first time with the purchase of Kennedy Electrical Supply Corp., Jamaica, N.Y.
According to Dick Schmid, vice president of marketing for Crescent Electric, East Dubuque, Ill., this is the company's first foray into the Northeast, however, the company does have branches in Greensboro, Reidsville and Highpoint, N.C.
Kennedy Electrical has branches in Jamaica, Garden City Park, Newburgh and Nanuet, N.Y.
Crescent Electric Supply, with 112 locations in 24 states, is the eighth largest electrical distributor in the nation, according to Electrical Wholesaling's 2002 listing of the 250 Biggest electrical distributors.
Dave Weinstein, formerly vice president, general manager, Kennedy Electrical Supply, will continue as district manager.
