Schneider Electric’s Square D Co. was recently awarded more than $33 million in contracts with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) for advanced metering projects. The work will include designing, procurement, installation, testing and sustaining building-level advanced metering solutions in support of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The projects will help the Navy and Marine Corps cost-effectively allocate and manage energy resources.
The Navy Region Northwest part of the project is expected to be completed on or before July 2011 and includes three main sites: Naval Station Everett, Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and Naval Base Kitsap. The metering system will feature Square D PowerLogic ION 8600 advanced meters. A smaller project for Marine Corp Base Camp Smedley D. Butler in Okinawa, Japan, is expected to be completed on or before December 2011.
