Horizon Solutions, Holyoke, Mass., has been quietly expanding its involvement in energy services and added to that offering recently with the acquisition of Teknikor Energy Solutions, LLC, Fall River, Mass., formerly known as Action Energy. The addition of Teknikor allows Horizon Solutions to add expertise in mechanical systems to the mix.
Teknikor Energy Solutions is a turnkey provider of energy-efficient power and mechanical energy solutions, said Horizon in a release on its website. “This addition to Horizon Solutions' Energy Services team follows our 2008 acquisition of Lighting Resource Management, a lighting energy services company based out of Newburyport, Mass. The addition of Teknikor's experience and capabilities will significantly enhance our energy service capabilities.”
Bruce Shaffer, president of Teknikor Energy, will join the Horizon Solutions Energy Services team as director of engineering and operations.
Teknikor Energy Solutions has been providing energy services for industrial, commercial, education and government facilities that want to upgrade their energy systems, improve energy efficiency and take advantage of the incentives and rebates available when upgrading to the latest energy efficient technology. The acquisition of Teknikor Energy Solutions expands Horizon's Complete Facility Energy Assessments that uncover opportunities in customers' facilities to will drive energy efficiency, sustainability and increased productivity, said the Horizon release.
According to Teknikor's website, the company offers a broad range of services ranging from mechanical contracting to engineering and plant layout to electrical contracting to machining and steel fabrication, as well as energy services. Key market segments it serves include education, health care, financial, commercial, industrial, municipal and government clients.
The acquisition involves just the company's Energy Services business. Horizon Solutions executives declined to elaborate on how Teknikor would be integrated into Horizon's business, saying they prefer to keep a low profile.
“Since the formation of our Lighting & Energy Services team in 2008, we have seen remarkable growth,” said the release, aimed primarily at the energy services group's customers. “We now have the ‘in-house’ resources to manage your energy and lighting system upgrade projects from the initial design stage through the cost/benefit analysis, installation and ongoing maintenance.”
Horizon Solutions has 10 locations throughout the Northeast and held the #56 position on Electrical Wholesaling's latest ranking of the largest electrical distributors in the U.S., with sales of $115.8 million in 2010.
