With leaner operations and fewer employees than in years past, electrical distributors now average $326,400 in sales per employee, according to a recent Electrical Wholesaling magazine survey.
The study, which will be published in EW's November issue as part of its annual Regional Factbook, also showed that the median sales figure (the midpoint in sales for the survey respondents) was $300,000. Half the respondents have a sales-per-employee figure higher than $300,000, and half of the distributors had a lower sales-per-employee figure.
Sales-per-employee varied widely by region, with distributors in the Mountain states, (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming), checking in at $435,960, and distributors in the West South Central States, (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas), showing a figure of $242,750.
