Allied Wire & Cable Buys Alan Wire Assets

March 14, 2014
Allied Wire & Cable (AWC), Philadelphia, has acquired Alan Wire, a wire specialty distributor, to expand its offering of mil-spec and aerospace cable.

Allied Wire & Cable (AWC), Philadelphia, has acquired Alan Wire, a wire specialty distributor, to expand its offering of mil-spec and aerospace cable. AWC is buying inventory and machinery from Alan Wire, Irwindale, Calif., which recently closed its doors after 27 years serving the military and aerospace markets.

Alan has been known by many as the go-to source for rare mil-spec cable constructions, the AWC release said, and makes a perfect match for Allied and its ongoing efforts to expand its mil-spec inventory and meet customer demand for these parts.

Alan Wire’s stock is being moved from California to Allied’s Headquarters in Collegeville, Pa. Nine full trailers of product made the journey across the country, AWC said.

The deal also expanded Allied’s in-house value-added service capabilities with the addition of two laser printers from Alan Wire. Laser printing is used as an alternative to hot-stamping for a permanent printing solution that will hold up in tough environments, such as those encountered in many military and aerospace applications, AWC said. A twister, tape wrapper, braider, striper, and extruder from Alan Wire will also allow Allied to increase volume on other existing value-added services.
