Switch to Build Another Data Center in Texas

June 3, 2021
Switch is becoming a big presence in the Lonestar state's data center market.

Switch Inc., Las Vegas, announced the primary location of its fifth Prime data center campus in Texas. A land purchase agreement with Dell Technologies will allow Switch to construct a 1.5-million-sq-ft data center next to Dell’s global headquarters in Round Rock, TX. The Fifth Prime campus will be called “The Rock.”

According to the press release, Switch recently acquired Data Foundry, with properties capable of delivering over 500,000 sq ft and 60MW in Austin and Houston. With the addition of this new land, Switch’s Texas technology campus ecosystem will be built to provide over more than 2 million sq ft and 185MW of power upon completion. Switch expects to begin site preparation and permitting at The Rock Campus in summer 2021. The company will power these facilities with 100% renewable energy.

Switch Founder and CEO Rob Roy said in the press release, “To be strategically located alongside the Dell Technologies global headquarters is an opportunity to continue broadening our offerings of the world’s most advanced data center infrastructure to current and future Switch clients.”
