The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that Acuity Brands will recall about 6,500 lighting fixtures in its Lithonia JHBL LED line due to concerns that a metal hub used to mount the light fixtures to the ceiling can break and allow the fixture to fall unexpectedly, posing a risk of injury from impact. Lithonia has had eight reports of hubs breaking and four of the fixtures falling, but no injuries have been reported. Consumers should immediately contact Lithonia Lighting to receive a free chain to secure the fixture to the ceiling. Lithonia Lighting is contacting all known customers.
The recall involves fixtures manufactured between August 2014 and June 20, 2015 and sold through electrical distributors. Units shipped after June 20, 2015 are not included in the recall. Manufacture dates are located on the product label near the top of the fixture. The fixtures, made in Mexico, weighing about 40 lbs and listing for about $520 each, are painted white with raised die-cast heat dissipating fins every 2 inches.
