Technology consulting firm iSuppli sent up a flare on March 2 about a possible shortage of LEDs. Huge demand for flat-screen televisions with LED backlighting is apparently one of the main causes for the shortage, according to an iSuppli report. Interestingly, LEDs for general lighting applications are still a tiny piece of the market pie as far as LED manufacturers are concerned. Said the iSuppli report, “The general illumination market for LEDs is still in its infancy, but will become mainstream during the next two years.”
