Joe Schneider of Madison Electric passes away, son Brett to take the helm

Feb. 26, 2013
Joe Schneider had been president of Madison, Standard Electric (based in Saginaw, Mich.) since 1985. His eldest son, Brett Schneider, has been named president. Further changes in the company's executive structure follow from the succession.

Madison Electric Co., Warren, Mich., and its sister company, Standard Electric, of Saginaw, Mich., announced the passing of Joseph (Joe) Schneider, president of Madison Electric and vice-president of Standard Electric. Schneider, a third generation company leader, served Madison Electric and its customers for 47 years. He began his tenure in the warehouse and worked in all phases of the enterprise including sales and purchasing. In 1977 he was named an officer of both Madison and Standard Electric Companies. Schneider became president of Madison Electric in 1985.

Schneider planned ahead for a smooth succession: Brett Schneider, the eldest of Joe's four sons and a 22-year veteran of the company, has been appointed president by the company's board. Brett began his tenure in the warehouse and worked in all phases of the enterprise including sales and purchasing. He most recently served as vice president of product management. He has been a company officer and vice president for 10 years. Brett earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Miami University, Ohio and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Kent State University. As president, Brett will focus on sales, marketing and operations.

The evolution of Madison’s executive team also includes the move of Benjamin (Ben) Rosenthal from secretary/treasurer to CFO. He will continue to serve as the company’s secretary. Rosenthal is a 30-year veteran of Madison Electric. Jordan Glass will succeed Ben as treasurer. Glass, who has served Madison for over two years, has gone through the company’s executive training process in preparation for the role. Previously, he served as a vice president of Glass Retirement Strategies, founded in 1974, focusing on pension and actuarial consulting. Glass earned a Bachelor degree in Political Economics and International Relations from James Madison College at Michigan State University.

Brad Schneider, also one of Joe’s sons, has been promoted from warehouse manager to vice president of operations. He is a 15 year veteran of Madison Electric and implemented the company’s warehouse management system. His primary areas of focus are warehouse operations, logistics and branch operations. He earned a Bachelor degree in Social Science from Eastern Michigan University.

Joe’s youngest son, Brandon Schneider, is an associate of Madison and has served the company for 11 years. He is currently participating in the company sales and operations training program.
