April EPI Continues Decline with 0.1% Drop

May 20, 2016
It’s the same song with EM’s Electrical Price Index, with a 0.1% decline in April to 114.6 and 1.8% drop year-over-year (YOY) from April 2014.
It’s the same song with EM’s Electrical Price Index, with a 0.1% decline in April to 114.6 and 1.8% drop year-over-year (YOY) from April 2014. One interesting twist with the always volatile wire and cable categories was that Building Wire & Cable was even for the month (down 4.3% YOY), but Power Wire & Cable was up 1.8%, (down 12.3% YOY). Lamps were up big in April with a 2.5% gain (down 1.8% YOY).

Note: All EPI series represent Global Insight aggregates of Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) producer price indices (PPIs). The revised data partly reflect redefinitions of specific PPIs by the BLS, but mostly reflect the rebenchmarking of all EPI price series to a 1997 base year. The four following EPI series have been affected by BLS redefinitions: boxes, conduit (fittings), nonmetallic conduit, and generators. Sources: U.S. Bureau of  Labor  Statistics; Global Insight
